If you live in the Austin area and have a mad hankering for Scandinavian crafted furniture, cheap kitchen utensils, or lingonberry jam, here’s a public service announcement for you.
Today is the first day that you can start lining up for the grand opening of IKEA Round Rock. I can’t believe that people actually start lining up two days early just to go to IKEA, but what the hell do I know? There are loads of incentives to freeze your butt off in the parking lot for two days: you can get a free Poäng chair (first 100 people), a free kid’s toy (first 100 children), and a gift card that may be worth as much as $1,000, but is more likely worth about $5 (first 2,500 people).
On the other hand, you could just go to work and make enough money to buy all of these things for yourself and save your dignity, but I suppose that’s taking all the fun out of it.
I, myself, plan to go in a couple of months when the hype has gone away. But, then, I already have my cans of lingonberry jam stashed safely away
