It’s been a couple of days since my last “real” post. There’s not a whole heck of a lot going on in my life. I spent a good portion of Sunday gardening, figuring that if three inches of gravel doesn’t keep the weeds out of the flowerbed, nothing will. On Monday, it dawned on me that it might not be the wisest thing for someone with an upcoming doctor’s visit for suspected carpal tunnel to be lifting large heavy bags of gravel (this thought coming to me at midmorning as I started to wonder why my left arm ached so badly in new and unusual places).
It’s been an interesting week to be a blogger. Last week — I guess maybe a week and a half ago? — I made a reference to Christian Chavez coming out. In case you’ve not heard: he’s part of a Mexican pop band named RBD, short for rebelde (rebel), and he publicly acknowledged his homosexuality after a web site published photos of him and his partner exchanging vows in Canada. He is one of, if not the only, entertainment world celebrities in Mexico to openly state that they are gay.
Within minutes, my site was nearly overrun by hits from people wanting to know more about Christian and to see the famous photos. By the time all was said and done, I’d added a second post in English and Spanish with links to the photos and some of the more interesting news articles, and that particular post has attracted more attention in the last two weeks than my entire blog did during the month of December. (For the record, if you arrived here by Google search, you want this post right here).
For the record, because I’ve gotten a couple of messages from folks that suggest there might be a little confusion on this bit: I am not Christian Chavez. I don’t know him. I’m not even a fan, since I haven’t heard his music. I’m sure he appreciates all of his fans messages of support, but I can’t guarantee that if you send them to me that he’ll ever get to read them. But it’s nice to know that he’s so well loved.
A couple of days after that, Best Gay Blogs published an interview with me in which I sound hopelessly pretentious, but if you’ve read anything I’ve written at all that shouldn’t surprise you. I’m flattered that they interviewed me. They’re revising some of their standards and guidelines and things, and I hope they still consider me great after that. I’d even settle for mediocre.
Over the weekend, I got added to someone’s blogroll, which now makes for a grand total of two (that I know of). It gave me quite a smile — hey, there are people out there reading me! I’ve also heard from a couple of my readers over the past couple of days, which is great! I’d like to hear from more of you. I’ve been feeling like I’m projecting out into a great void of nothingness — it’s very nice to have confirmation that there’s someone out there on the receiving end. I know all the blog etiquette manuals say that you shouldn’t beg people to comment on your blog, so I am not begging. I am inviting you all to join in!
And I hope your Tuesday is off to a great start!
