All’s Well that Ends Well

Man, I’m tired. We’ve had house guests for a week, and I just can’t quite taking being ‘on’ anymore. It’s rather stressful, especially considering the drama that started off my folks’ visit.

Their work is done – they put an offer on a house yesterday morning that was accepted by lunchtime. I’m trying not to gloat, but I had been telling them since the moment that they sold the house in Memphis what they needed to do to have a place to live, and they danced around it in circles before taking my advice and finding the perfect place. I don’t know why people just won’t accept my place at the center of the universe. Honestly.

Not that any of you are concerned that they might be making the same mistake that they made in moving to Memphis, but they’d already picked out the area where they wanted to live when they were here in December, and they had found the perfect model of home that particular developer had on offer. I told them repeatedly that they should drive around the part of the development that was already built up and see what was for sale, but my father had it in his mind that they needed to build a house, which would take months. So, Tuesday afternoon in desperation they went out to that area again, re-discovered why they’d fallen in love with it the first time, and happened upon a house of the very model that they wanted which was available for immediate sale.

So, all’s well that ends well — for now. Of course, I still have to get them out there with all of their stuff and moved into the house, and run back and forth to IKEA several hundred times, but that will come after my vacation … my much, much needed vacation. I fly to Albuquerque on Thursday of next week for a two-day conference, and then Ray flies out on Saturday and we’re going to be in and around Santa Fe until the following Wednesday. Natalie reminded me this morning that we actually have to do work for this conference — we’re presenting on Saturday! — and it woke me out of my reverie, but since then I’ve slipped back into denial about the whole thing. I’ll think about it next week.

I hope you’ve had a good week, wherever you are…
