Why is it news …

… that one of the housemates on the upcoming Real World: Cancún is gay?

Wouldn’t a bigger news item be that one of the housemates was well-adjusted and socially functional?

Today’s 2 AM question

Friday, March 13th, 2009

On the way in this morning, I saw a flier hanging in the student union for a course entitled, “Backyard Boat Building.”  The flier was helpfully illustrated by a man standing in the wooden frame of a boat under construction in what did appear to be a backyard.

The question thus pops into my head: once the boat has been built in your backyard … how the hell do you get it out of there?

Tales of the Big Blue Dong

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Ray and I went to see Watchmen on Sunday. Apparently I’ve been living under a rock, because I wasn’t quite prepared to see Dr. Manhattan’s Big Blue Dong on the screen. I didn’t realize until afterward that the full frontal nudity has been burning up the InterWebz.

All I’m going to say is this: the thing that struck me about it wasn’t the fact that he was naked. It’s that, well, as impressive as the CGI-generated phallus is … they don’t actually hang that way in real life. I kept thinking he looked like the animated guy they put on the Voyager Spacecraft.

If you’ve seen it … I’ll bet you know exactly what I’m talking about. Gravity ain’t that powerful.

Clay Aiken Comes Out

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Actually, the term was “reveals that he’s gay,” but honestly, except for that housewife in Omaha who was just convinced “he hadn’t found the right girl yet,” is there anyone for whom this is actually a revelation?

In Brief

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Not enough material for a “real” post, so in brief:

* Construction continues on the house, but we’re coming down the home stretch and will hopefully arrive somewhere soon.  The new patio furniture looks great on the new deck under the new roof.  Just waiting for some finishing touches.

* The new students are here.  A surprising number of them have studied Italian – we’re all trying to figure out what the connection between Italian and Arabic is.  At the moment, a number of them are having a loud discussion-slash-argument in the hallway about when Ramadan starts.  (Like, down to the second).

* The President of Zambia is dead.  You may recall that a while back I posted about the fact that there seemed to be a as to his life status.  Well, apparently it’s finally been determined for certain: he’s dead.  Please make a note of it.

* Someone forwarded me this video.  I like it.
