Blathering

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, largely because I don’t have a lot to write about. There’s a whole lot of nothing going on. I saw a bunch of movies this weekend … the (rather weak) remake of The Manchurian Candidate (Meryl Streep as the bad woman? Seriously? I just kept wondering why they decided that she needed to put on 25 pounds for the role … assuming that was deliberate, of course … ). I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. They could have squeezed a liiiitle more Christian imagery in there, but I imagine that they were trying to keep it PG-13 so that the kiddies could go. But seriously. I haven’t seen that much blatant Christian imagery since the end of The Matrix trilogy.

I watched lots of episodes of Drawn Together, the unbelievably raunchy adults-only cartoon series from Comedy Central. And it became slightly disturbing when I realized that the woman who does the voice of Toot Braunstein (the 20s sex icon who is an undersexed alcoholic who cuts herself) was also the voice of Dot Warner on Animaniacs. Seriously, when this is the grand sweeping revelation of your weekend, there’s something a little off kilter, ain’t there?

Speaking of raunchy cartoons. There’s a news report going around that Saddam Hussein has been forced to watch the South Park Movie ‘repeatedly’. In case you missed it, one of the ongoing plot points of the movie is that Saddam Hussein was eaten by wolves, and now resides in Hell where he is Satan’s abusive gay boyfriend. I can’t decide if this should upset me or not. Morally it’s probably not right, but we are talking about a guy who’s on trial for genocide, so I’m really not caring about what’s morally right at the moment. Dear me, does that make me a Republican?
